Studio Supports Allen In Light Of Open Letter

It seems that Woody Allen's days being above reproach (and the law) may be numbered. In an emotional and haunting open letter in the New York Times, Dylan Farrow, Allen's estranged adoptive daughter, appealed to Hollywood-- specifically Diane Keaton, Cate Blanchett, and Louis C.K., begging the question, how would you feel if Woody Allen had molested your daughter? Would you feel so fondly towards him then? Farrow explains that when Allen is celebrated like he is during this particular awards season, it feels like a "personal rebuke." Case in point, aside from the allegations, open letter, and unsettling marriage to his teenage daughter there are still those who refuse to acknowledge the truth about Allen.

The studio that produced his most recent critically acclaimed film (Blue Jasmine), Sony Pictures Classics, has spoken out in support of Allen saying, "We have had a long, productive and rewarding relationship with Mr. Allen. This is a very complicated situation and a tragedy for everyone involved. Mr. Allen has never been charged in relationship to any of this, and therefore deserves our presumption of innocence."

A bold statement to be made by the company, considering the emotional and personal nature of the alleged crime. Sony Pictures Classics seems more concerned about the reputation of the movie, not wanting to taint their string of wins that have graced them as of late. Considering that the crime that was supposedly committed was of horrific and gruesome intent, maybe a movie studio doesn't have any business at all getting involved in something that happened decades before their new movie was even produced.

Despite the studio speaking out, Allen's representative also released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter claiming, "Mr. Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful. He will be responding very soon." We're not too sure why anyone would ever wait to respond to such serious claims, but he did make another statement saying that the allegations were "disgraceful." Ronan Farrow, Allen's estranged son, made sure that he didn't wait to respond at all. Farrow tweeted in defense of his sister proclaiming, "I love and support my sister and think her words speak for themselves."
