Why I'll Never Stop Rewatching 'One Tree Hill'

by Vannessa Jackson

I personally think One Tree Hill was the all-time greatest show to ever be made. Yes, I know that seems a little dramatic, but I don't care because I love dramatic. It basically had something for everyone. There was no storyline they weren't willing to explore, and it showed through in every single episode. No matter how many years pass since it's been off the air (it's been four, I'm still counting), I will watch One Tree Hill again and again. Because, in those four years, I have grown to love those characters more and more with each re-watched episode.

Apparently I'm not the only one, because year after year, fans — and many of the original cast members — return to North Carolina for a One Tree Hill convention. No, that is not a joke. There is really an entire yearly convention dedicated to a fictional town with fictional people that affected real people in real ways. I hope this convention sticks around forever, or maybe just long enough for me to go visit one time. Yes, One Tree Hill is that good. It's the reason that me and many people can't help but re-watch the greatest show ever made. And here's why you should too, if you don't already.

1. Nathan And Haley Scott

No list about One Tree Hill would even come close to complete without mention of the greatest love story there ever was: Nathan and Haley. I shed a tear any time they stare longingly into each other's eyes and utter those three fateful words, "Always and forever." It gets me every time.

2. Jamie Scott

The result of Nathan and Haley's marriage was the cutest darn kid you could ever imagine. Jamie Scott was an absolute scene stealer in the best way possible. Adding a child to their relationship only made it 10 times better.

3. Lucas' Quotes

Every episode opened with Lucas, played by Chad Michael Murray, reading a deep quote that related to the episode in some way. I couldn't get enough of listening to his voice as he read those quotes, and many of them I saved in a journal to read later. Yes, I'm that girl.

4. Lucas And Peyton

Second to Nathan and Haley, this was the best relationship on the show. Lucas and Peyton had so much chemistry it was unbearable. Tortured artist falls in love with tortured artist? It was a match made in TV heaven.

5. Lucas And Nathan

This was my favorite non-romantic relationship in the show. Two half-brothers who grew up on opposite side of the tracks learn to bond over their love of the game. It sounds corny, but it was pure gold.

6. Career Goals

In reality, the probability of each person in your friend group going on to achieve as much success as the characters of One Tree Hill is very unlikely. There was a best-selling author, an owner of a famous clothing brand, a professional athlete, and the list goes on. Regardless, it taught me that even small town dreams can manifest into big city realities.

7. Haley And Lucas

I loved this relationship so much. They were literally just friends who had each others back. There were no secret crushes, no hopeful romantic glances. Just a strong friendship between a guy and a girl.

8. Brooke And Peyton

Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer were the original friendship goals. Long before Taylor Swift and her group came on the scene, there was Brooke and Peyton. Even though they had their ups and many, many downs, in the end, they were always there for each other.

9. Loyalty

I think what made this show so relatable was the loyalty that they all shared with each other. Of course they got in some all out brawls, but, when it came down to it, they were all about having each others backs. There wasn't a more perfect set of friends.

10. Chad Michael Murray

This is the show that really got me crushing on Chad Michael Murray. To be honest, I wasn't sold when I first watched him in Freaky Friday, but this role changed it all. He was manly, sensitive, misunderstood, good mannered, need I say more?

11. Tyler Hilton's Music

Tyler Hilton played Chris Keller throughout the shows run, and, every now and then, they would let him sing one of his real songs, and it was amazing. To this day, he is still one of my all time favorite musicians. If you haven't heard his stuff, you need to check him out ASAP.

12. The Theme Song

There isn't a day that goes by that I hear the song "I Don't Want To Be" by Gavin Degraw and can help being instantly reminded of One Tree Hill. Gavin Degraw is also now one of my favorite musicians because of this show.

13. Karen's Cafe

I really love when shows have a main hangout spot that all the characters tend to meet up at on their spare time. Also, the fact that it was owned by Lucas' mom made it that much better. It really felt like a cute small town.

14. Brooke Finds Love

The character of Brooke was really beaten down in the love department. From getting cheated on by her boyfriend to being thought of as promiscuous for many seasons, Brooke finally found Julian, and I couldn't have been happier. If anyone deserved love, it was Brooke Davis.

15. Uncle Cooper

Nathan's hot Uncle Cooper was one of my favorite recurring characters. Mostly because he was super attractive and always stirred up a little extra trouble when he breezed into town.

16. Tree Hill

The town of Tree Hill itself was a huge part of the show. Like I said, I enjoy a good small town, and getting to know all the characters that live within the confines of it. By the end of the show, I really felt like I knew Tree Hill almost as much as my own hometown.

If you've never seen this show, it's worth taking a sick day to do a marathon. In fact, take a couple days and watch a few times, because it's that good. One Tree Hill is a quality show, and worth all the hype it gets. I will continue to watch this show, always and forever, because, after all, there's only one Tree Hill.
