Chris Rock Burned Will & Jada Hard

This year’s Academy Awards has been beaten down by a lot of controversy. With not one person of color nominated in any of the major categories, the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite took off, and many high-powered celebrities opted to boycott the ceremonies in lieu of showing up. The most notable of the celebs to pass on the Oscars were Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and host Chris Rock totally called them out in his opening monologue at Sunday night's show. During his opener, Rock said that he understood why Pinkett Smith is boycotting, but implied that she wouldn’t have been invited anyway. Oof. Yet, while they’re clearly not at the Academy Awards, are Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith watching the Oscars on TV at home?

It sure doesn't seem like it. While they didn't post anything about the ceremony during the actual show, Pinkett Smith made her feelings about the Oscars very well known earlier this year, when she tweeted: “At the Oscars, people of color are always welcomed to give out awards...but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments… People can only treat us in the way in which we allow.” I would have thought there would have been more to that in the weeks since, but alas, there's been nothing. And none of her other family members have voiced their opinions — not even son Jaden, who, as many know, is typically pretty prolific on social media.

Considering how passionate Pinkett Smith and Smith were about boycotting the Oscars, it'd make perfect sense that they are not watching the Academy Awards from the comforts of their home. And good for them for sticking to their morals, even if it means that people like Rock will make jokes at their expense.
