Levi’s New Denim Has a “Secret Sauce,” and More

by Alyssa Shapiro

Today in things-that-might-be-great-but-are-phrased-in-a-suspect-manner, Levi’s shortly plans to launch a new sister in its shape-defining denim repertoire. The Revel line boasts technology based off the teachings of the late, great makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin (whose contouring capabilities are revered to this day), and a “secret sauce.” Yes.

First, kudos to whichever genius at Levi’s sought the knowledge of a man who made women look so good, and applied the knowhow to their butts — presumably without laughing. LOLs aside, it is great that our bootays will be emphasized in what are hopefully all the right places.

For the lifting, we refer to the “secret sauce”:

According to WWD, who spoke with Jill Guenza, Levi’s VP of women’s design, the magic begins with a four-way stretch blend fabric consisting of polyester, cotton, Lycra and something new to me, DuPont’s Sorona fiber. Here’s where the magic comes in: Stretch is regulated via the sprayed-on application of a liquid chemical formula that controls the varying degrees of stretch allowed by each area. So instead of a uniform stretch fit, the denim, according to Guenza, “carves out the inner thigh,” (graphic word choice, friend,) “slims and smooths the outer thigh, lifts the seat and flattens the tummy.”

If you’re interested in trying on a pair, you’ll need to wait until August 4, and head to a Levi’s store where employees will be well versed in Revel’s capabilities.

Until then, get a friend to check out your at-home booty contouring, as we know bathroom lighting can be deceiving.
