This Major 'HoC' Character Is Back

Frank Underwood's crimes are sure to catch up to him at some point, one would think. Season 4, Episode 1 spoilers ahead! What happened to Lucas Goodwin on House of Cards ? As one of the few living people who has the power to overthrow Frank, it could prove important to refresh on his journey before Season 4 of the Netflix series premieres on Friday, especially since Lucas is back on House of Cards for the first time since Season 2.

Lucas, who is played by Sebastian Arcelus, was first introduced in Season 1 as Zoe Barnes' coworker. He was a political editor at the Washington Herald. They started dating when she went to work for the blogs and he wasn't her boss at the Herald anymore. He, Zoe, and Janine Skorsky were investigating Congressman Russo's death and Frank Underwood's crimes while he rose to power in Washington. He became Editor in Chief of the Herald at the end of that season.

Then, in Season 2, he was part of that whole Hacktivist subplot. Remember that mess, with "HEROnymous" Gavin Orsay, played by Jimmi Simpson from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? He had a guinea pig. Lucas was still investigating Frank Underwood, but now had Zoe Barnes' death to avenge on top of everything else. He was being manipulated by Gavin Orsay and Doug Stamper and was ultimately arrested for cyber-terrorism. To add insult to injury, none of his coworkers has the courage to continue investigating Frank Underwood. It's pretty tame, as far as tragic falls on House of Cards go, but tragic nonetheless.

At the end of Season 2, he was sentenced to 10 years in jail, and hadn't been heard from until now. It's a miracle that he's still alive, to be honest, and his existence is a major threat to both Frank Underwood and Doug Stamper — even though he has been made to look like a crazy conspiracy theorist. Janine Skorsky, on the other hand, escaped to Ithica, New York and was forced into signing an affidavit that condemned and denied all of her, Zoe, and Lucas' claims against Underwood. All he needs is the right ear and someone he can trust, which is difficult to come by on House of Cards, but not impossible.
