The Oscars Will Be Very "Happy" This Year

Get ready to see a much happier Oscars ceremony this year. According to CBS News, Pharrell Williams will perform at the Academy Awards next month, and is set to take the stage with his Oscar-nominated song from Despicable Me 2, "Happy." Get it? The song is called "Happy," so it'll make the Oscars happier? Yeah? Look, I tried.

The news was confirmed by producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Williams — who was previously a music consultant for the Academy Awards — wrote the song "Happy" for Despicable Me 2, and it's nominated in the best original song category alongside "Let It Go" from Frozen, "Ordinary Love" by U2 from Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom, and "The Moon Song" by Karen O for Her.

Williams is fresh off of three Grammys wins, as well as a Grammy performance with Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers, and music legend Stevie Wonder. Should he win, he would be the third rapper to ever take home an Oscar: In 2006, Three Six Mafia took him an Academy Award for "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp" from Hustle & Flow, and in 2002, Eminem took home an Academy Award for "Lose Yourself" from 8 Mile.

The Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air on ABC on Mar. 2.
