Lena Dunham Hospitalized With Ovarian Cyst

On Saturday, writer, actress, and Girls star and creator Lena Dunham was hospitalized for a ruptured ovarian cyst that requires emergency surgery. Further details and results of the surgery have not yet been released, but Dunham's spokesperson, Cindi Berger, announced the hospitalization in this statement to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital. Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”

Dunham's show, Girls, is currently airing its fifth and penultimate season; because of her public struggles with endometriosis, Dunham has had to bow out of press for the HBO show. In a Facebook post in February, Dunham wrote that she was "currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest." She also posted in support of the many women (one in 10) who suffer from the disease without the option of taking a break. Dunham also recently discussed her endometriosis in an interview with Paper conducted by Jane Fonda, and how it has affected conversations she and her boyfriend, musician Jack Antonoff, have had about having children.

Dunham has been up to quite a lot in 2015 and the beginning of 2016: creating a full season of Girls, debuting the excellent Lenny Letter, and campaigning for Hillary Clinton are among many other achievements.
