Kim Kardashian Breaks The Internet (Again)

by Nicole Pomarico

If there's anyone in the world capable of causing mass social media chaos over a selfie, it's the queen herself, Kim Kardashian, and this time, she really isn't messing around. In the wee hours of Monday morning, Kardashian tweeted a naked selfie, and although I'm a bit biased because I love her and her entire family, I don't think anyone can argue that homegirl doesn't look good. Unfortunately, that's not exactly the reaction people are having to her photo. Instead, the response has been pretty negative, and it's bumming me out to see that the Kardashian hate is still going strong in 2016.

In case you haven't seen the selfie, let me preface this by saying it's not as scandalous as it could be. Kardashian censored the photo with a couple of well placed black bars, hiding anything that you wouldn't see in a swimsuit. In the pic, a blonde Kardashian is posing in front of her mirror, and the caption laments the fact that she has nothing to wear — something that I highly doubt is true, considering that we've all seen her magical closet on Keeping Up With The Kardashians and she has more clothes hanging in there than most stores keep in their stock room.

But as gorgeous as the simple selfie was, it still attracted a ton of that hate I was talking about earlier. Some Twitter users called her a "mess" for posting a photo like that when she's a mother to two children, and someone else even posted a version of the selfie that's entirely blacked out, saying he "fixed" it. Although anything related to Kardashian and her family is bound to receive some criticism, this is really disappointing. At a time when people are finally realizing how important being body positive is, a reaction like this isn't exactly helping that cause. Regardless of the fact that she's a mother and a reality star, Kardashian deserves to feel comfortable in her skin as much as anyone else does, and if she celebrates that by sharing a photo like this, then it's awesome that she's able to do that.

Besides, with a caption like that, it's obvious that she's posting this photo with a healthy serving of humor. She knows people will talk — and knowing how savvy she is, I'm sure she wants them to — but what if the conversation was more positive? It would be a really cool thing to see Kardashian be able to share what she wants to without being shamed for it, especially for a reason as flimsy as the fact that she's a mom. Kardashian isn't just a mom. That title is not all she is, and her being a mother has nothing to do with what she chooses to do with her body.

And the bottom line? Body positivity is for everyone, even Kim Kardashian. And although many of us will never choose to go full frontal on Twitter, Kardashian is, and it would be really awesome if she received support instead of hate. It's a lofty dream, but I'm optimistic that someday, it could be reality.
