More Bad News for 'Community'

by Rachel Reid

NBC's Community has been going through some rough times lately, and things are only getting worse.

Vulture reported today that Donald Glover will only appear in 5 of the season's 13 episodes, official turning Troy Barnes into a minor character on the show. This is undoubtedly a setback for Community, but it also means we'll be seeing more of Childish Gambino, Glover's rapping alter-ego, and that makes it pretty hard to feel negatively about this situation.

It's been clear for a while now that Donald's about ready to spread his wings: Childish Gambino released his first album with a major studio, titled Camp, in 2011, and it received a huge critical response. Rumors started circulating last year that the comedian would be writing his own pilot for NBC, and soon after that he did a guest spot on Girls. If that wasn't enough warning for Community fans, though, Glover was pretty explicit about wanting to move on in a verse of We Ain't Them, off his newest album, Royalty:

That reminds me - I sent a long text message to my mom and pop / I got the same speech when I left 30 Rock / My mom like 'Why you wanna leave a good job?' / My dad like, 'Do your thing boy, don't stop'

If you're feeling truly crushed by this news, my best advice is to watch this video and realize what Donald Glover was born to do:
