11 Shirts You Were Obsessed With In The '00s

by Kali Borovic

When it comes to '00s fashion trends, there wasn't an exact recipe for success. It was more like stars wore what made them feel good, and then it suddenly the trend caught on amongst us little people. Despite how they came to be popular, there were some types of shirts that you definitely loved during the '00s. Because back then, if Britney Spears said that it was cool, then it was cool

From halter tops to popcorn shirts, the trends in the '00s were distinct. It seemed like no matter what the pop stars wore, that style instantly became the must-have look, no matter how bizarre it was. That probably left you with quite the collection of items hanging in your closet. Maybe you even held on to some of these look. You never know when you could need an N*Sync cropped t-shirt from middle school again, right?

Whether the trends were long-lasting or short-lived, odds are you had to have these shirts at the time, and there's no shame in that whatsoever. You might be able to pull some of those old t-shirts out of your closet and wear them today, but others should probably be left to languish in the dregs of your Facebook photo album where they belong. Whether you wore them yourself or borrowed them from a friend, these 11 shirts were probably in your closet during the '00s.

The halters of this era weren't anything like some that are still worn today. Most of the time they were made of a satin-y fabric and had a tiny little string or piece of metal to go around the neck. Don't lie, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

2. A Tied Shrug

Because what else were you going to stylishly cover up your formal outfit with? Not quite a sweater yet not quite a shirt, it was seen as appropriate for all types of occasion — even red carpet events.

3. A Belted Waist Top

The obsession with belted shirts was big in the '00s.

4. A Lace Up Blouse

For some reason people loved to bedazzle the heck out of normal t-shirts during this era, often with lace-up designs and metal grommets.

5. A Teeny Cropped Tee

There is a distinct difference between crop tops and what happened in the '00s. Instead of being a little bit belly-bearing, the trend seemed like it was quite literally about grabbing a shirt that was two sizes too small.

6. A Layered Tank Top

Layering was all the rage in the '00s, especially when it came to tank tops. It didn't matter what fabric, color, or print — if it could layer, you layered it.

7. A Bedazzled Jersey

Even if you didn't have an actual jersey, you still probably had a t-shirt with numbers on it that had more rhinestones and glitter than it needed.

8. A Striped Turtleneck

Turtlenecks '00s in the '00s were often striped and skin tight. Bonus points if you paired it with a thick headband.

9. A Graphic Band Tee

These were favored by everyone. I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who were teens in the '00s still have a few of these in their closets.

10. A Corset Top

If you idolized Avril Levigne and shopped at Hot Topic, you probably had one of these.

If this doesn't encourage you to do some spring cleaning, then I don't know what will!
