A Kanye West X IKEA Collab Might Be In The Works

by Augusta Statz

When it comes to music and fashion, this artist is making waves in the industry. But, could he also now be looking to branch out even further into the design realm? Kanye West is rumored to be collaborating with IKEA because there’s nothing this man can’t do. He's on the path to world domination, and if that means bringing affordable furniture for the masses, then so be it. All hail Yeezus, you know what I mean? UPDATE: An IKEA representative told Bustle via email that while Kanye West did in fact visit IKEA, there are no plans for collaboration at this time.

According to the Refinery29, West was seen visiting IKEA’s design department in Sweden, so there could be something in the works. He does have somewhat of a connection to IKEA already, apparently. According to the NY Daily News, he worked with London-based designer Katie Eary on his PFW collection in 2011, and Eary now has a limited-edition furniture collaboration with the company, herself. So, was West just visiting a fellow designer friend? Or, is he going to be the next one to have a partnership with the furniture brand? We can only hope the latter is true! Bustle has reached out to both IKEA and West's representative for comment.

If ‘Ye designed a couch, I’d gladly sit on it, that’s for sure. I’d even make it the centerpiece of my living room, if it was at all affordable. Given that a West-designed couch could be made a reality through IKEA, it's likely to be quite reasonably priced. So, I’m planning where I’d put my potential West X IKEA pieces as we speak.

Here’s what you could count on from a partnership between West and IKEA:

1. Modernity

Both parties are known for pushing the envelope in terms of design. West recently put on an album release/fashion show in Madison Square Garden, so he's not traditional when it comes to his approach.

2. Comfort

Not only is West's personal style relaxed, his fashion collections have been, too. So, I'd expect nothing less from his furniture.

3. Popularity

Given how popular his other ventures have been, his footwear, for example, I'm sure this furniture collaboration would sell out quickly, making the IKEA showroom even more overwhelming than it already is.

4. Cohesion

Yeezy Seasons 1, 2 and 3 have had a similar progressive feeling to them because this man's got a clear vision.

5. Minimalism

If his furniture design is anything similar to his fashion aesthetic, you might find a lavish touch here and there, but for the most part, he'll proved pieces that are functional, without all of the bells and whistles.

Let me just say, if West approves of a partnership with IKEA, then so do I.
