'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Is Bouncing Into Space

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hit the ground running with its midseason premiere, but in a slight break from Marvel tradition it was the episode's opening scene that was more shocking than the final. Who was the woman in a spaceship on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ? The necklace was only the first clue to this mysterious future.

The episode opened with a flash forward to "three months from now," in which an unidentified S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, likely female, flew threw space in a small shuttle. The only identifiable object in this ship was a floating cross necklace — which we learned belongs to Elena Rodriguez, also known as Yo-Yo, later in the episode. Either she's in that spaceship, or the necklace is in for quite the epic journey.

Elena is an Inhuman that the team met in Colombia. She is an Inhuman who can run at super-speed, but always returns to her point of origin on a "run," hence the nickname. Yo-Yo Rodriguez is a comic book character as well, who also goes by Slingshot. After proving herself to be a valuable member of the team, Daisy and Mack offered her a job with the Secret Warriors S.H.I.E.L.D. team, but she turned them down to return to her life in Colombia. Judging by the flash-forward, however, it looks like she found her way back into the fray.

What was Elena doing in space? Is she in trouble? Some kind of Inhuman mission? S.H.I.E.L.D. just barely got the United States Government back on their side, so I'm amazed that they have NASA resources in only a few months. Unless Fitz is able to build a spaceship and hasn't told anyone, this is an interesting development on many levels. If I can throw in a personal request, I hope that Mack joined Elena on this space mission. I liked their chemistry on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I am not one to turn a new 'shipping opportunity down.
