The Best Deals For National Pi Day

Happy Pi Day, y'all! It's the one day of the year when math is celebrated in the best way possible — with lots and lots and lots of food. Whether you're on the prowl for something sweet or savory, the world is full of National Pi Day deals to make this holiday one to be celebrated by mathematicians and bargain hunters alike. No matter how much you enjoy doing math, chances are you like saving money, so go out, be bold, and seek out the discounts you deserve. The hardest problem you'll have to solve on National Pi Day is figuring out which kind of pie to eat first.

What is Pi Day? As you've probably noticed from just a quick glance over at your calendar, today is March 14 — or 3/14, depending on how you write out the date. What's the significance? Well, 3.14 just so happens to be the first three significant digits of the irrational number Pi. In 1988, physicist Larry Shaw first suggested making March 14 Pi Day in honor of the geometry ratio, and the rest, as they say, is history. Congress even officially recognized March 14 as Pi Day in 2009, meaning celebration is pretty much mandatory at this point. Looking for a few ideas to get you started? Check out the deals below.

1. Pizza Hut

It's time to dust off those high school math notes, because Pizza Hut is offering free pizza for 3.14 years to anyone who can answer one of three math word problems. The catch? The problems are ridiculously difficult (they were created by a Princeton mathematics professor). But, if you're feeling particularly sharp this morning, hit up the Pizza Hut blog starting at 8 a.m., and leave your answer in the comments section. If you're right, you get more than three years of pizza.

2. Shake Shack

If you have time to stand in line, hit up Shake Shack for a $3.14 Pi Day concrete. (For those who don't speak Shake Shack, a concrete is essentially the custard equivalent of a Blizzard — and they are delish.)

3. Whole Foods

Save $3.14 on whole dessert pies at select Whole Foods locations in honor of National Pi Day. Some stores are also offering $2 off Take and Bake pizzas.

4. Magnolia Bakery

The New York City bakery is teaming up with watch brand Leonard & Church to bring freebies to fans. Follow both brands on social media to win a free pie and watch.

5. Microsoft

Weirdly, Pi Day is also an ideal time to buy a new computer. Microsoft is offering a 31.4 percent discount on Dell's XPS 13 — perfect for any pie lovers who also happen to be in the market for a new laptop.

6. Bojangles'

Take a break from chicken and biscuits, and take advantage of Bojangles' Pi Day deal instead. For $3.14, you can pick up three sweet potato pies. Sounds like a good time to me.

So get out there, you hungry math nerds. There's a Pi Day deal waiting with your name on it.
