Coachella, Sasquatch, SXSW & More: What Kind of Festival Goer Are You?

And so it has begun. With the close 2013 dead and gone, many are already planning music festivals for the warmer months of 2014. Coachella's lineup was announced last month, and the lineups for Sasquatch!, Shaky Knees Festival have been announced just this week. So now's the time to make decisions: which festival will you go to? Well, you can't answer that question without first truly knowing yourself. So look deep inside your soul and ask yourself the real question: what kind of festival goer are you?

Brostepper

Gender nonspecific bro, of course. For you, music festivals are just one giant party. You have seriously asked the question “where’s the drop?” before. You also tell people that EDM is your favorite thing to listen to. Every accessory you pack will be neon.

NPR Dad

You don’t have to be a dad to have this apply, but you do have to be someone who listens to music very earnestly. You think that a Grammy still means something. You are a lover of both Southern rock and jam bands. You haven’t come around to all this bleep bloop music, but do love a good pop song from time to time. You feel like Bob Boilen really understands you.

Indie Darling

Neutral Milk Hotel is still your favorite band, and you still quote their lyrics in your Instagram pictures. You still listen to Conor Oberst sometimes, although you feel kind of bad about it. You love nothing more than a sad white dude with a guitar. You’re not a huge fan of crowds, but you heard Modest Mouse was doing the festival circuit, so you thought you’d come out.

Your festival: Primavera Sound, Boston Calling Music Festival, Shaky Knees Music Festival

Just Left of Pop Princess

You are a lover of a good melody, a catchy tune, and a beat you can dance to. Lorde was your favorite new artist this year, and there was never any question that you would be buying Beyonce’s album. Sure, you may not know the name of half of the artists in the lineup, but there’s no shame in that. You’ll be open to anything that catches your ear, and you’ll probably have more fun at this festival than anyone else anyways.

Generic College Music Person

You don’t have to actually be in college, but there is no way you are older than 35. You love finding new music, but you don’t spend tons of time looking for it. You’ll listen to any kind of music, but you pride yourself on being discerning: you’ll take your Kendrick Lamar without the Imagine Dragons, thank you very much. You’ve been saving up all year for this festival, and you can’t wait to don your flower crown and go with your friends.

The Cerebralist

For you, music is a hobby that borders on obsession. You like to talk about music way too much. You use words like “dissonant” and “harsh noise” when describing some of your favorite albums. You know your top ten favorite music labels by heart. Friends who don’t share your taste in music sometimes make weird faces at you when listening along in the car. Yours is a hard and lonely path to walk, my friend.
