Who Will Be On Megyn Kelly's FOX Broadcast Special

by Joseph D. Lyons

Morphing from the power moderator who took on Trump at the first debate into a Barbara Walters-esque interviewer may be tough for some, but not for Megyn Kelly. The heaps of praise she has received during the 2016 GOP primary season has exposed more viewers to her brand of tell-it-like-it-is, friendly questioning — and her audience is about to get even bigger. In May Kelly will host her first broadcast primetime special produced by a former longtime producer of The View. That begs the question, who will be on Megyn Kelly's FOX broadcast special?

The special will feature interviews with a "variety of celebrity interviews from the world of politics, entertainment and other areas of human interest," according to a FOX press release. The group will surely be the perfect mix, similar to The 10 Most Fascinating People specials that Walters used to host, if producer Bill Geddie has his way. He co-wrote and directed those specials — in addition to his 17 years at The View.

Kelly has already been interviewing some of society's most sought-after guests over the course of her 3-year-old program's run, including the Duggar family, Bill Ayers, Charles Koch, and Michael Moore. In addition to interviews, Kelly will discuss what it has been like to cover the 2016 campaign. She may be remembered most for her face-off and following feud with Donald Trump, but she also co-moderated all the GOP debates for Fox. The first had 24 million viewers, making it the highest watched non-sports cable news telecast of all time.

The special has been in the works since at least last June. Kelly at the time told Variety that her guest wish list included Hillary Clinton, Caitlyn Jenner, and Kim Kardashian West. Roger Ailes, chairman and chief executive of Fox News, said that she could handle just about anybody. "Megyn is so good today that there is no interview I would not want her to do. She can handle human interest and cultural change," he said. The Kelly File averages about 2.5 million viewers — so no wonder he trusts her.

As for following in Barbara Walters' footsteps, it sounds like Kelly is game — at least according to her Variety cover story last year. "Barbara Walters has retired,” Kelly said. “Diane Sawyer left her anchor role. Oprah has moved to the OWN network and is doing a different thing now. So why not me?"

That's a good question, Megyn Kelly. Why not you?
