You know how running into your ex can be super awkward and stressful? Well, it seems as though Matt Murdock is going to face the same sort of dilemma when Netflix introduces Daredevil newcomer Elektra Natchios in Season 2. (Superheroes, they're just like us!) Now, for those who are unfamiliar with Elektra's comic book origins, here's what you need to know. After her mother was gunned down by enemies of her father, Elektra began hearing voices and seeing visions, which prompted her father to send her way for therapy until she could become more stable. But that's not where her Daredevil story begins. In fact, there's a good chance none of that will ever come to light on the show. Her romance with Matt, though, is a completely different story.
The two of them met in New York City while was attending Columbia University and the sparks instantly started to fly. And while things didn't end up working out for the two of them (thanks to the fact that she broke his heart), I'm sure we can expect some lingering attraction to still exist between them when they reunite at the start of Season 2. That being said, don't expect this character to resemble Matt's current love interests, Claire and Karen, in any way, shape, or form. You see, Elektra has now become an assassin-for-hire, adding an extra layer villainy to her already bad-girl persona. But don't be too quick to label her as outright evil. Yes, she has a wild side and may have no qualms with killing someone if it helps to achieve her goal, but that doesn't mean she's immune to feelings and emotions. She just kinda has a tendency to bring out the more devilish side of our Daredevil.
"Elektra is the little devil sitting on Matt's shoulder," actress Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra, recently explained during an interview with RollingStone.com. "She brings out the evil side in him a bit. And you know, maybe Elektra misses having someone good around her, to balance her out. Because they really do complete each other." In other words, think of her as Matt's Id in human form, who will make us a see a different side of our superhero that we didn't even know existed.
And, as an added bonus, this character will be equal to Daredevil in every way in regards to the highly trained skills of martial arts, which will provide for some sexually charged boxing scenes. "It's intimate and it's violent," Yung shared about their early training years together. "It's 'I love you, but I will kick you in the face.' It's complicated, as you guys say." As if we needed another reason to fall in love with this show. Let the Elektra sparks and badassery fly!
