Is 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' On the Way?

Guardians of the Galaxy hasn't even been released yet, but Marvel apparently has so much faith in the film, they're reportedly already planning a second: According to JoBlo, it's being rumored that Marvel may be planning a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel to open in 2016, as a part of their "Phase Three" movie plan to release titles all the way through 2021. From JoBlo:

You may have heard rumblings of a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY animated series as well, which we can also confirm. [...] Those that have seen the Comic Con footage of the film can attest to how badass the flick looks and I'm pretty sure Marvel knows it as well. You certainly wouldn't bank a sequel and an animated series on something that was less than a sure thing.

So, not only is the site claiming that a sequel is on, but apparently, we can also expect an animated series and an epic first film as well. Damn — is this real life, or are we just dreaming?

The site is claiming that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will open some time in 2016. Of course, these are just rumors, but as The Dissolve points out, it's not totally unlikely:

With the first Guardians Of The Galaxy still six months away, there are really only two possibilities here. Either the source is mistaken or Marvel is so high on the unfinished film that they’re ready to commit to making another one. Then again, Feige did talk about that massive decade-long plan, and perhaps a Guardians sequel is already on it.

Guardians of the Galaxy will open on August 1, 2014.
