Hoffman Mourned at Wake

by Ivy Jacobson

Four days after Philip Seymour Hoffman's devastating death, mourners continued to grieve their beloved friend and family member. On Thursday, Philip Seymour Hoffman's wake was held in New York City at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on Madison Avenue from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Capote actor's longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell, and their three children, Cooper, Tallulah, and Willa, arrived with Hoffman's mother, Marilyn O'Connor.

Grieving alongside his family were close friends and former co-stars Joaquin Phoenix, Justin Theroux, Michelle Williams, Ellen Burstyn, Ben Stiller, Billy Crudup, Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, and Josh Hamilton. Amy Adams came with her fiance`, Darren LeGallo, Meryl Streep came with her husband, Don Gummer, and Cate Blanchett came with her husband, Andrew Upton. Williams and Blanchett were also seen at O'Donnell's townhouse earlier this week to pay their respects to Hoffman's family.

On Friday, a private funeral for Hoffman will be held at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan. 400 people are expected to attend, and a larger memorial service will be held in upstate New York later this month.

Hoffman's autopsy results were determined inconclusive on Feb. 5. More tests, including a toxicology study, will be conducted in due time. Hoffman was found dead in his bathroom on Sunday with a syringe in his arm. Envelopes of heroin were also found scattered around his West Village apartment. So far, four people have been arrested in conjunction with the actor's death.

A candlelight vigil was held for the actor on Wednesday night in New York City, and Broadway's marquee lights dimmed for one minute at 7:45 p.m. the same night.

Our hearts go out to Hoffman's family and friends during this tragic time. The outpouring of love and respect, appreciation for his gifts, and admiration of his career show that the actor will be severely missed, but never forgotten.
