This Is One Thing You Shouldn't Use Jojoba Oil For

by Alexa Dragoumis

Just like coconut oil, jojoba oil is pretty fantastic for almost everything beauty related — it moisturizes, helps with hair growth, removes makeup and even cleanses! But, believe it or not, there is actually one thing you should never use jojoba oil for... and that is as a day moisturizer.

Foundation users, watch out! The explanation is simple: if jojoba oil removes makeup, then applying it to our skin before applying foundation or other makeup may prevent products from really sticking to our skin the way we need them to in order for them to last. Obviously, with most people working long days or attending school from dawn until dusk, long wear-time for makeup is important! Just to be clear, I'm not saying skip your moisturizer, but I do believe that there are better options than jojoba oil when as it pertains to morning beauty routines.

In fact, it's really best to stray away from oil-based product during the day all together, as Renee Rouleau recommends in an article for Refinery 29. But not to worry, I'm going to give you a few alternatives that you can substitute for your beloved jojoba oil at all different price points — including a few of my personal favorites!

1. Clarins Multi-Active Day Mosturizer

Clarins Multi-Active Jour, sephora.com, $53.00

Aside from being a beautifully scented and incredibly effective moisturizer, this formula helps fight aging before it happens.

2. Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Day Moisturizer

Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital, macys.com, $49.00

I love that this cream provides 24-hour moisture while still protecting my skin from the sun and other potentially harmful environmental factors.

3. Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer

Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer, walgreens.com, $5.99

Do you struggle with an oily T-zone? Voila... your solution to moisturizing while nipping acne in the butt.

4. Clarins Double Serum

Clarins Double Serum, sephora.com, $89.00

This serum is one of my absolute favorites. It penetrates the skin all the way down to the second layer, providing intense moisture and leaving behind very little residue. In fact, since your skin will drink this up immediately, you could even use a moisturizer on top of it.

5. Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, sephora.com, $26.00

Besides the fact that this lotion is one of Clinique's best sellers, it's also incredibly priced and even works on those of us with oily skin.
