Abbi & Ilana's Friendship Gets Even Cuter

Hey, you were looking for more reasons to love your favorite Broad City comedic duo, right? Was that you? Anyway, I'm just going to leave this interview with Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson on their working relationship right here, because I feel like I remember you saying you needed more excuses to obsess over them. I guess technically the conversation with Entertainment Weekly was about Glazer's upcoming miniseries project with Comedy Central called Time-Traveling Bong, but it ended up being a real ode to friendship and support and independence, and I just about can't get enough of it.

Obviously, the two women are pretty famous as a unit right now, and I think in situations like that, it would be easy for Glazer and Jacobson to just double down on that, and lose their individual identities within the collaborative (and immensely successful) project that is Broad City . Probably the safer career move, too. But somehow they have this intuitive understanding that it actually benefits their friendships and their careers to each work on their own things too and not be tied together in every single thing they put out there. According to Glazer, "We’ve always felt like whatever experiences… we always felt like any experience you have, you talk about it and you both experience it together in some way. So it feeds our partnership together."

As if that wasn't adorable enough, Jacobson added, "And as writers and performers, our voice together as a … “duo” is very different than when we’re acting or writing individually. Our individual voices make our collective one, but we have different things we want to explore more."

See, this is exactly the kind of friendship we should all be striving for, where you're secure enough to accept that your partner has needs and interests outside of all you all the time. It takes so much trust and understanding and love and genuine desire for that partner to be happy that there are corollaries to every single kind of relationship, from platonic to romantic and everything in between.

These two women just like get it. Get each other, get the industry, get their own needs, and have nothing but respect for all of the above. We could all stand to learn a thing or two from them.
