Please Stop Talking About Mariah's Boobs

by Emma Goddard

We all know Mariah Carey isn’t afraid to belt out some killer vocals and she’s also not afraid to let the world see her body either. Carey performed in a rather low-cut gown at the 2014 BET Honors in Washington, D.C. on Saturday and the reaction to her appearance has been nothing short of emphatic.

Headlines like “Mariah Carey threatens to burst out of tight-fitting gown for BET Honors performance” and “Mariah Carey Almost Falls Out Of Her Cleavage Flashing Dress While Performing At The BET Honours” abound. Okay, everyone, don’t get your panties in a bunch; it’s just a black dress.

Fox News put it best when they described her dress as something “that seemed reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit.” If you haven’t seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit already, then you should really get on that. But if you have, you would know that yes, Carey does resemble Ms. Rabbit in her BET dress, and that it is perfectly fine. Who doesn't like Jessica Rabbit?

Also, I’m not quite sure why so many are surprised because this is Mariah Carey after all, and she does have a bangin’ bod, so why is everyone hating? Carey knows she’s hot, which is why she’s flaunting it. This is the same woman who walked her dog in a little red bikini through the snow last year, so you would think people would have figured out this is just how she is. And I say holla at that girl, because there’s nothing wrong with it. We'd all be so lucky to maintain a body anything like hers by the time we’re in our forties.

Rather than pushing women down for being “too revealing,” we should encourage each other to embrace the bodies we have. You want to wear a low-cut dress to an award show and sing your heart out when you’re 43? Go for it! Do you want to do that at 30? Also great! Do what you want girl, because at the end of the day, it's your body.
