B.J. Novak And Penguin Donate 10,000 Books To Kids

With the help of Penguin Young Readers, actor and New York Times bestselling author B.J. Novak will donate 10,000 books to kids in need. Novak will give 5,000 copies of his children's title, The Book with No Pictures to First Book: a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that children from low-income families have access to books. Publisher Penguin Young Readers will match Novak's donations.

The Book with No Pictures is not Novak's only title. The actor and comedian also wrote a short story collection, titled One More Thing . His stories have appeared in The New Yorker and aired on This American Life.

If you're wondering what the big deal is about a book with no pictures, check out the video of Novak reading his children's book below. The K-2 students of Long Island City's Growing Up Green Charter School think the premise — that the reader is duty-bound to read every word on every page, even if that means they have to say silly things — is pretty hilarious. Clearly, they have good taste.

(Also, Ryan the Temp might have been kind of a jerk, but B.J. Novak is cute as a bug when he's in his blue suit, entertaining a bunch of small children with his book.)

The Growing Up Green Charter School isn't the only institution to receive a visit from The Book with No Pictures' author. On April 7, Novak will hold a reading at L.A.'s 52nd Street School. Each child who attends will receive a free copy of The Book with No Pictures.
