When To Expect A 'Mockingjay' Trailer

by Alanna Bennett

It's been a few long months now since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire casually dropped in to destroy the box office and promise us all the future bounties of heartbreak and battle-action our dystopian allegory-loving hearts can handle and understandably, people are starting to chomp at the bit when it comes to looking forward to The Hunger Games' next installment. Never fear, however, because even in the off-season we've still got the rumor mill, and that rumor mill would like you to know that the first Mockingjay trailer could very well drop in April.

It should be noted that while this is still a very rumory-rumor rumoring around that rumor mill, Mockingjay, Part 1 is set for a November 2014 release date, and Catching Fire, with its November release date, released its first trailer last April during the MTV Movie Awards. I remember because it was literally the only reason I was watching the MTV Movie Awards.

Hypable, who first brought news of the rumor to the Internet-trawling masses, also suggests that the trailer might end up attached to Divergent, which is also a Lionsgate production. It's a possibility that makes far too much sense to discount given the myriad similarities of the two franchises and their audience. Divergent premieres March 21.

Filming for Mockingjay, Part 2 is still underway in Atlanta, of course, and that latter half of the production has faced recent potholes in the road with the untimely and tragic death of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who played The Hunger Games' Plutarch Heavensbee. Hoffman had but one scene left to film in the franchise, but it was a crucial one for the film — so crucial that Lionsgate is talking digitally recreating him for that last scene.

Stay tuned for that Mockingjay Part 1 trailer ... could be but 8 weeks away.
