These Two Are Up 'Schitt's Creek'

by Rachel Semigran

Film’s funniest parents are about to hit the small screen together. Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy are slated to star in the new Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek . The CBC series follows billionaire and soap star couple Johnny and Moira Rose who lose everything and try to rebuild their wealth from the aptly named rural town of Schitt’s Creek. The show will also co-star Eugene’s real-life son Dan Levy as well as fellow Great North comedian Chris Elliott.

Were it not for Levy and O’Hara’s comedic star power and the very fact that the series is written by Canadians and will be filmed in Ontario (seriously, Canadians are the funniest people pretty much ever) — well, the premise would sound like another run-of-the-mill living room sitcom. Rich people who lose it all and hide out in the sticks? It’s not exactly the first time that concept has been tried. But oh, how bizarre and character-driven I know this show will be. It makes me want to move to Canada for reasons other than possible election results every four years... and bacon.

In fact, the Rose family sound a little something like another fallen-from-grace comedy dynasty, the Bluths, “Now the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. It's Arrested Development." But as we all know, Arrested Development was anything but your standard sitcom. I personally can’t wait to see where television’s newest twisted family will go. No matter how many times Levy and O’Hara share the screen, they are golden. Please, oh please, Netflix bless us with this gift from America's northern neighbors.

Grab your paddles, it’s time for Schitt’s Creek.
