Which Stage Fall Rules Them All: Biebs' Or Demi's?

by Caitlyn Callegari

What are the odds that two usually agile mega pop stars fall on stage within one day of each other? Honestly, I don't know. I'm not a statistician. Hell, I can't even pronounce that profession. But, you have to admit, it is quite the coincidence that Justin Bieber fell on stage at his concert on Wednesday and then Demi Lovato fell at WE Day on Thursday. What can we do with this information of their weirdly klutzy synchrony? Make it into a competition, of course. This is America.

Listen, I am not judging at all. I am the queen of falling in public. I've fallen on stage presenting at my 8th grade chorus concert, down the stairs in the middle of a restaurant, in front of the pizza guy when I was particularly hungry and lost my footing, running for the bus, tripping over the curb in my rain boots, smacking my head into the light pole as a man in a nearby car rolled down the window and pointed and laughed, the list goes on. My falling predisposition is why I am so fascinated by the anatomy of a fall and how it's handled. Because, apparently, not everyone hides their crimson red face in shame afterwards. *Shrugs*

In the spirit of my falling brothers and sisters, and in light of my public klutz confessional, I think it'd only be right to compare their falls in the tried and true game of, "Who did it better?" Which fall rules them all: Biebs' or Demi's?

Justin Bieber

Pros:

  • He fell during his performance of, "Sorry," which is literally everyone's jam, whether they admit it or not.
  • He didn't let the fall deter him.
  • He's Justin Bieber.

Cons:

  • He was shirtless. I think he got stage burn. Is that a thing? I think it's a thing.
  • He completely wiped out.
  • Everyone noticed. It was kind of impossible not to.

Demi Lovato

Pros:

  • She didn't fall too hard. It was probably (hopefully) physically painless. I cannot imagine it was totally pain-free in the soul, though.
  • She turned it into a fancy move and got the crowd to then cheer for her.
  • She owned it, thus regaining her dignity.

Cons:

  • She fell while walking in heels, which is my worst nightmare.
  • She fell as she was making an entrance. *Covers hands with eyes*
  • Everyone noticed. It was kind of impossible not to.

Winner:

Demi Lovato. I have to give kudos to both Biebs and Demz for handling it like pros in totally different ways. But, in the end, being able to poke fun at yourself and work it to your advantage is what life is all about.
