'GoT' Season 6 Premiere Title May Be A Big Hint

by Kristie Rohwedder

On Thursday, HBO dropped two generous gifts in our laps: the succinct, albeit intriguing synopsis of the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere and the title of the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere. The episode, which will air on April 24, is called "The Red Woman," and the... Hold up. "The Red Woman," you say? Innnnteresting, very interesting.

A few things to consider:

  • Lady Melisandre, aka the Red Priestess of the Lord and Light, also happens to go by "the Red Woman."
  • Melisandre probably possesses the ability to bring a dead mortal back to life.
  • Jon Snow was stabbed to death at the end of Season 5.

What happens when we toss these three points in a simmering cauldron, stir the concoction, and let the speculation stew run its course? Might the Season 6 premiere title hint at the Bastard of Winterfell's resurrection? It very well could, it very well could.

...But what if “The Red Woman” is not a reference to Melisandre or to the resurrection of Jon Snow? What if it's a Red Woman herring? If that is the case, what could the title possibly mean?

Here is my guess: Cersei throws a lavish party to celebrate her own awesomeness. At some point during the evening, one inebriated reveler trips over a loose piece of cobblestone and crashes into the enormous red wine tower that has been set up in the middle of the party room. Every last glass crashes to the ground, and a majority of the Dornish red wine ends up on the host’s gown. The room falls silent. Rather than kick the wine spiller out, Cersei looks at her now red dress and laughs, “It’s a small price to pay to the party gods." The festivities resume. The end.

Oh, how I've missed Cersei "The Red Wine Woman" Lannister!
