'Fantastic Beasts' Reveals A Major 'Potter' Link

Usually, you tune into an awards show to see who takes home the night's biggest prizes or check out an exciting performance. However, for many viewers, that was not the case with the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Instead, Sunday night's most highly anticipated moment was a new Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them clip, which premiered during the broadcast of the pre-taped show. And by Dumbledore, did the footage live up to the hype. Star Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander in the movie, even appeared on stage to introduce the clip by way of magical briefcase — after an awesome, sepia-toned dance routine of several men carrying similar cases — creating the perfect magical atmosphere for this new footage, which also came with a pretty huge reveal.

The clip opened with a voiceover, speaking to Scamander and telling him that like his magical case, there's probably more to him than meets the eye. That's when we get some exposition that reveals much more about the magizoologist's background: He was kicked out of Hogwarts for endangering the other students with a magical creature, though one professor argued for him to stay in school. That professor? Future headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

In addition to this potentially game-changing information, the footage shows Scamander exploring New York, including the headquarters of the American version of the Ministry of Magic, political fundraisers, and hidden, magical parts of the city. It was a thrilling look at a whole new part of the world Harry Potter and showed that the new film has maintained all of the exciting magic and interesting figures that made the original series so great, while forging its own story.

The clip's title card read, "J.K. Rowling invites you to explore a new era of the wizarding world," and after this footage, I'm sure every Harry Potter fan out there is counting down the days until we can do just that, when Fantastic Beasts is released on Nov. 18.
