Blake Lively Skipped The MTV Movie Awards

by Kayla Hawkins

Ryan Reynolds is on top of the world: Deadpool is a huge success, and the actor won two MTV Movie Awards for his profanity and action-laden performance as scarred anti-hero Wade Wilson. But there was something missing: his wife. Where was Blake Lively during the MTV Movie Awards? Unfortunately for fans of the actor's red carpet style, she didn't make an appearance at the awards show to support her husband.

The couple have made a lot of public appearances together lately on red carpets as Reynolds promoted Deadpool, but this time, Lively didn't make it to the event. Usually, the star is quick to put up a social media message in support of Reynolds' work, but I think in this case, the support is obvious, even though Lively wasn't in the audience, and could very well have been spending the evening at home with the couple's one-year-old daughter, James.

However, Lively did warrant a very funny mention in Reynolds' acceptance speech for Best Comedic Performance for Deadpool. "I want to thank my wife — everything I do is to make her laugh, especially the sex. Thank you," Reynolds said to close out his speech. I wish that Lively had attended the awards in order to see her reaction to that joke, but I'm willing to bet that these two have a compatible sense of humor. It was a very funny ending to a surprisingly emotional speech from Reynolds, where he described the difficult process of getting Deadpool to the big screen. "I have been trying to get Deadpool made for over a decade and I failed and it's you the fans that got this made," Reynolds said. "The reason I'm standing up here is because of you guys, and we had blast working on this movie, but it wasn't all unicorns and cocaine."

I suppose we'll just have to imagine Lively's guffaw to that helluva one-liner.
