Rey's Buns Made An Unexpected Appearance At MTV

Nominated for 11 awards (and taking home three) at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, most of us expected Star Wars to be quite the theme of this year's event. But what we didn't necessarily expect was for Rey's Star Wars: The Force Awakens buns to make an unexpected appearance — on Charlize Theron's head no less. Theron was at the April 9-filmed show repping Mad Max: Fury Road, but seemingly honoring an entirely different film and arguably one of the strongest female characters to come out of cinema in the last year. It was a glorious look — one I'm sure both Daisy Ridley and Rey would approve of wholeheartedly.

This isn't the first time Rey's buns have made it onto an awards show red carpet in 2016. Daisy Ridley herself sported the trio of buns for the Oscars. But to see the hairstyle on a different actor proves the gravitas of the Star Wars franchise. This is a series that has been touching the hearts, souls, and heads of humans since 1977, and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

Theron's whole look felt like a cross between Game Of Thrones and Star Wars — her gown managing to be simultaneously Medieval and futuristic. But it was the Rey buns that truly stole the show.

Who knew this style could be so, well, elegant?

Although not an exact replica — Theron's buns being set a little closer to the scalp, rather than flowing a bit loosely — it's safe to assume this was a galactic-themed 'do.

Thank you for helping ensure every element of Star Wars lives on, Theron.
