Fans of Harry Potter got a real treat at the MTV Movie Awards when Eddie Redmayne appeared to premiere a new two-minute trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The clip was filled with new footage from the film, which is a sort of prequel to the Harry Potter series. Fantastic Beasts follows Newt Scamander (Redmayne), a British wizard who specializes in magical creatures, as he embarks on an American adventure in 1926 New York City. In the new trailer, viewers see Newt arrive in America and wander around New York with a mysterious woman. This character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is none other than Porpentina Goldstein, an American witch who befriends Newt, and, one would assume, helps him in his adventures. Played by Katherine Waterston, Porpentina, also known as Tina, worked as an Auror in the Magical Congress of the United States before she was demoted for going against her supervisors. It seems fair to say that she's a talented witch, who will be crucial to help Newt find the magical creatures that escape from his briefcase. Porpentina's younger sister, Queenie Goldstein, will also be featured in the film. She appears briefly in the new trailer performing magic alongside her sister.
If you haven't already read up on Newt and Porpentina, then you might want to stop reading now — potential spoiler ahead! Porpentina is actually Newt's future wife. In JK Rowling's extensive Harry Potter mythology, Tina and Newt get married and move to England. But whether this is explored in Fantastic Beasts is unknown. All that viewers can tell is that Porpentina has a major role, and will play an important part in Newt's journey.
