How Long Will Taylor Swift's Break From Music Be?

by Amy Mackelden

Always ready to surprise us, Taylor Swift has announced in an interview with Vogue magazine that she is taking a break from music. Since Swift released 1989 in 2014, she's been ever present our lives, especially as she's released seven singles from the album to date, which is just incredible. Combined with her legendary 1989 World Tour, it makes sense that Swift would be ready for a break round about now. But how long will Taylor Swift's break from music be? What will the singer be doing with her time off? And, most importantly, how long will we have to wait until we get brand new Taylor Swift music? Surely a follow-up to 1989 is due sometime soon?

According to Vogue, Swift fans might not have to wait that long to hear new music from her, as she has no idea how long a break she will be taking. It might be months, but, by the sound of it, it's more likely to be weeks. The "Bad Blood" singer said, “This is the first time in 10 years that I haven’t known. I just decided that after the past year, with all of the unbelievable things that happened... I decided I was going to live my life a little bit without the pressure on myself to create something.” Chilling is never a mistake, right?

While it certainly sounds as if Swift needs some time off to chill after an incredibly successful and busy year in 2015, it doesn't sound like her break from music will be for very long. It's actually kind of refreshing to hear a mega star like Swift talk about not knowing what she wants to do next with her life, and just needing some time out to reevaluate.

There is still a huge possibility that Swift's holiday will be short lived, and that she'll get so bored of having time off that she'll be inspired to start working on her next project. As she told Vogue, “The thing is, with me, I could very well come up with three things in the next two weeks and then jump back into the studio, and all of a sudden the next record is started. That’s an option, too.” So it's possible that any break Swift takes will only spur her on to create more music.

No one can deny that the artist works incredibly hard, and is always in the public eye, which must be exhausting. I wouldn't begrudge her taking a break, but it's good to know that she's not planning to disappear for several years, Adele-style, leaving us bereft.
