One Manson Family Member Might See Freedom Soon

by Lauren Holter

On Thursday, a California parole board agreed to let a member of the infamous Manson Family cult out on parole, and now it's just up to the governor to confirm it. So who is Leslie Van Houten? Now 66, she was convicted for the 1969 murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, and has been behind bars since 1971.

Van Houten joined Charles Manson's cult when she was 19, making her the youngest member of the violent group. A high school homecoming queen, the teen didn't participate in the first murders of Sharon Tate (the wife of director Roman Polanski) and four others at Tate's home, but joined the ranks in killing the LaBianca couple the next day.
