'Kimmy Schmidt' Paid Homage To 'Dawson's Creek'

Is there any person on this planet who does not love Dawson's Creek? The answer to that question is, of course, no. No, there is not. And that's precisely what made this random Dawson's Creek tribute on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt such an unbelievably genius move. No one was expecting it, and yet it's exactly what we all needed. (Warning: Episode 8 spoilers of Kimmy Schmidt are on the horizon!) During Kimmy and Dong's spontaneous romantic getaway, the two of them struggled with getting intimate with each other — mostly because Kimmy would involuntarily hit Dong with an old school land phone whenever they started kissing on the bed. But thankfully, Joshua Jackson appeared as a helpful store clerk named Purvis, who gave out some very Pacey Witter-like advice.

Kimmy was recalling how perfect Dawson and Joey's kiss was at the end of Season 1 of Dawson's Creek. (The only season that she had a chance to watch before her time in the bunker, by the way. As if the poor girl hadn't already been through enough.) But that's when Pacey — wait, sorry, Purvis, I mean — informed her that Dawson wasn't even the one who Joey ended up with. Her reaction to this series spoiler was priceless though: "What? But it's his creek!" (LOL-ing forever.)

Dong then proceeds to give her a rundown of how Joey lost her virginity to Pacey on the class ski trip, while Jackson took a few side jabs at his former character's storyline, even admitting that Joey's relationship with Pacey wasn't all that perfect either. (Does this mean that Jackson isn't Team Pacey?!?!) And while the majority of the world would undoubtedly disagree with that statement, it was still pretty amazing to see him recount some of those pivotal and highly beloved plot points. It's like watching a favorite character recap their own show. Why is this not done more often?!?!

Anyway, the point was that by the end of the conversation, Purvis showed Kimmy that even though people each have their own set of issues, if you find the right person to be with, like Joey and Pacey did, then none of the other stuff matters. So thank you, Kimmy Schmidt, for letting such sage wisdom come in such a handsome form. You certainly know what to give the people what they want. It's a miracle!
