'Better Call Saul' Season 3 Is A Ways Off

Since Better Call Saul is set six years before the events of Breaking Bad, I'm crossing my fingers that there will be at least four more seasons of the AMC slow burner after the Season 2 finale on Monday, April 18. As Better Call Saul was already renewed for Season 3 back on March 15, fans are guaranteed at least 10 more episodes. The Season 2 finale deals with Kim and Jimmy's new law practices, Mike battling Hector Salamanca, and the fallout from Chuck collapsing at the copy shop. But there is still plenty of Breaking Bad overlap that fans would love to see. Not to mention the little detail that Jimmy needs to take on his persona of Saul Goodman. So when will Season 3 of Better Call Saul premiere?

While a Season 3 renewal is a reason to rejoice, AMC has not yet announced a premiere date, unfortunately. The Season 1 premiere of Better Call Saul was on Sunday, Feb. 8, and it benefited from airing directly after the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead. Taking a page out of its unrelenting lead's book, Better Call Saul had back-to-back nights of episodes since the second episode of the series aired on Monday, Feb. 9. The show then continued with its regularly scheduled programming, airing on Monday nights for the rest of Season 1.

Season 2 has had a less complicated trajectory, premiering Monday, Feb. 15 and Better Call Saul stayed with Monday nights for that 10-episode run. Since both seasons premiered in February and aired — for the most part — on Monday nights, it's safe to say that Season 3 of Better Call Saul will follow (law)suit, possibly premiering on Monday, Feb. 6 or Monday, Feb. 13 in 2017.

I have unexpectedly been more invested in Kim than in any other character on Better Call Saul. The series does not rely solely on its connections to Breaking Bad for successful storytelling. Yet, thanks to Breaking Bad, viewers know the fates of many of the characters on the show and already have a passionate fervor for Saul and Mike. Although Breaking Bad never really delved into Saul's personal life outside of his connections to Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, his complex relationships with Chuck and Kim Wexler have taken center stage in Better Call Saul. Even if you had tuned into the series solely because of Breaking Bad, you continue watching week after week for the excellent portrayal of its characters — the new and the returning — and I can't wait to see what the show does with a third season.

AMC didn't announce when Season 2 would be premiering until November of last year, so we may have to wait the better part of a year to get an official date for Season 3. However, I'm not complaining, since I'm just happy that the series exists. Just like Better Call Saul, AMC might take its time when it comes to big reveals, but it will be worth the wait.
