What You Need To Know About Singles Who Love Weed

In honor of 4/20, Match examined the relationship between singles and smoking weed. Long gone are the days that pot smokers are just stoners who stick to their couch all day, as new data shows that those who smoke pot don’t just leave the couch (oh my!), but are looking for love and having some pretty active sex lives, too. Yes, the stoner stereotype is being fazed out.

Match’s annual Singles in America survey polled over 5,000 singles across the country to get their insight on their personal smoking habits and, for those who don’t smoke, their feelings on dating someone who smokes weed. Not too surprisingly people would rather date someone who smokes pot than cigarettes and the Baby Boomer generation are biggest tokers of all. Now you finally realize why your parents are always so damn giddy all the time.

But on a surprising note (at least in regards to stereotypes), stoners are actually quite health conscious and less likely to smoke cigarettes. But why smoke something that can give you cancer and doesn’t even get you high, when there’s weed? I mean, the answer is in the question.

Here are eight other facts about people who smoke pot that just might surprise you or, if you’re a regular smoker, won’t surprise you at all. But first, check out our latest episode of Bustle's Sex and Relationships podcast, I Want It That Way:

1. Pot Smokers Are More Likely To Have Multiple Orgasms

Marijuana is a natural aphrodisiac and it heightens everything to a point where having an orgasm just might be a bit easier for some. Because of this, the study found that people who aren’t just smokers but “open to marijuana use,” to use the study’s wording, are 109 percent more likely to have multiple orgasms. These people also have 3.6 percent more orgasms every time they have sex, compared to those who don’t smoke.

2. People Would Rather Date Pot Smokers Than Cigarette Smokers Or Heavy Drinkers

According to the survey, 69.88 percent of singles are less likely to be turned off by pot smokers than cigarette smokers or heavy drinkers. If you’re a heavy drinker, you’re looking at a 77.4 percent turnoff rate and if you’re a regular cigarette smoker, you’re looking at a 75 percent turnoff rate.

3. Generation X Smokes The Least Amount Of Pot

Gen X isn't all that big into smoking pot. Instead their parents, the Baby Boomer generation, are 67 percent more likely to smoke pot than them and Millennials are 16 percent more likely to smoke than the Gen X crew. But either way, Baby Boomers are still getting stoned more than all of us. That’s probably why they’re 81 percent more likely to support the legalization of marijuana.

4. Millennials Are More Open To Dating Pot Smokers

In a weird twist, although Baby Boomers are fine to get stoned, they’re less fine with dating someone who likes to get stoned. Of the three generations, Millennials, at 32.91, percent are the most likely to date a pot smoker, followed by Gen X, at 30.7 percent. Baby Boomers, being somewhat hypocritical, only have a 28.61 percent likelihood of dating a pot smoker.

5. Almost Half Of Pot Smokers Are Looking For A Serious Relationship

A 44 percent, single pot smokers are more likely to look for commitment. And, if that’s not enough to convince you should find yourself a pot smoker instead of someone who doesn’t smoke pot, 144 percent of them are more likely to have had actual relationships in the past — this is good news! You want someone who’s been around the block a couple times.

6. Pot Smokers Are Pickier Than Those Who Doesn’t Smoke

According to the survey, those who smoke weed are picky, picky, picky. Unlike those who don’t partake in getting stoned, those who do are less likely to date someone without a job, someone who lives at home with mom and dad, and someone who's messier than they are. They’re also less likely to date virgins.

7. Those Who Support The Legalization Of Marijuana Are Healthier And Smarter

As for those who support the legalization of marijuana (and it’s safe to assume they smoke it, too), 18 percent of them are more likely to exercise than those who don’t smoke and 65 percent of them are more likely to have a graduate or professional degree of some sort than those who are anti-the legalization of marijuana. It’s also these weed-loving folks who are 18 percent more likely to be employed than those are not in support of it.

8. You Should Move To San Francisco If You Want To Date A Pot Smoker

If, after all this, you have decided that you MUST date someone who smokes pot, then I suggest you move to San Francisco. It’s there that 63.38 percent of people smoke pot. Not far behind are San Antonio, at 60 percent, Nashville, 54.55 percent, Denver, at 51.61 percent, and Seattle, at 51.14 percent. So, I guess a few of you might be moving.
