Kim & Keo Caused Judge Drama On 'DWTS'

It’s pretty rare that judges will vehemently disagree with each other on Dancing With The Stars, but Kim Fields and new partner Keo Motsepe (it’s partner switch-up week, y’all!) turned all of the judges out this week. The scores were okay, but really, it was more entertaining to watch Carrie Ann Inaba, guest judge Maks Chmerkovskiy, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman duke it out together.

There’s always a lot of uncertainty that comes with the partner switch week. America gets to change these dancers’ routines. They work so hard for weeks (we’re in Week 5 now) to get to know and learn their dance partners, and it all gets up-ended in a week where they could be eliminated for their performances. If you don’t sync up with your new partner, well, you’re sunk. That’s how Kim Fields was feelings this week on Dancing With The Stars. In the pre-dance interview, she talked a lot about how unsure she was about dancing with Keo instead of her usual Sasha. It’s a whole new experience, after all! I thought they did wonderfully, but Maks and Len thought that their number was sloppy, the framing was all off, and there was just too much going on. Carrie Ann and Bruno, on the other hand? They loved Kim and Keo, pretty much completely negating anything bad the other two judges said.

Though it doesn’t happen often, I always think it’s interesting when the judges have wildly different opinions about a dance number. They’re all expertly trained dancers, choreographers, and instructors, so how does one judge see something different than another? I’m no dancer, so perhaps I’ll never know, but I’m glad in this case it worked out for actress Kim. It’s not fair to be judged on a partner switch week — like I said before, it turns everything upside down, and most contestants are just trying to make it through the week.
