'Castle' Just Lost Two Really Important Characters

by Courtney Lindley

It's official. You can now bid your adieus to your favorite New York Police Department homicide detective, Kate Beckett. Stana Katic won't be returning for Castle's ninth season. And, sorry, but there's more. Tamala Jones — aka Lanie Parish — didn't get asked back either. TVline reports that both Katic and Jones will not be a part of Castle Season 9 due to budget costs. ABC has confirmed the news, saying, "Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past eight years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle."

If tears are streaming down your face right now, don't worry. You are not alone. This is a massive change up for Castle. The crime-drama that's been on air since 2009 built itself on the premise of Katic's character, Kate Beckett and the mystery novelist, Richard Castle (played by Nathan Fillion). The show centers around these two. Even though the title gets its name from Richard's character, the overarching plot doesn't veer from Kate Beckett. She's integral to the storyline. She is the storyline. It's hard to say how Castle will make this work without her.

And to add salt to the wound, no Lanie Parish? Lanie and Beckett were the two best friends that anybody could have. To not see their friendship on TV anymore is going to sting. So, in an effort to soothe that wound, here are some of the best moments between Lanie and Beckett.

When Beckett And Lanie Pick Out A Dress For Beckett's Date

Lanie was always a supporter of Caskett, but her encouragement reached a level of sweetness when she helped a nervous Beckett get ready for her first date with Castle.

When Lanie Calls Beckett Out For Being Jealous

When Beckett won't admit to being jealous of Castle's "lost love," Lanie gives it to her point blank. "Girl, I'm going to smack you... Don't tell me you're not the least bit jealous." What are friends for, right?

When Lanie Sets Beckett Up

...With Mr. July of "last year's fire fighter calendar." What a pal.

When Beckett Comes To Lanie For Advice

Time and time again, Lanie proved to be the only person Beckett could really talk to about her feelings for Castle.

When Lanie Keeps Beckett's Secrets

"Whoever Beckett's boyfriend is is none of your business," she tells Javier and Kevin.

When Beckett Supports Lanie's Relationship With Javier

"Lanie... you look great," she tells her. Spoken like a true friend.

When Lanie Encourages Beckett To Follow Her Dreams

Even if they lead her away from Castle.

Beckett and Lanie, we will forever miss both you, and your friendship.
