The Drenched Hair Trend Is Here

When you think of a good hair day, you might not necessarily think of the drenched hair trend. Good hair days are oftentimes linked with non-frizzy strands, gleaming, blown-out locks, and a bounce to your 'do that would make a Victoria's Secret angel ask what your secret is. But it appears that this spring 2016 season, Marc Jacobs is making wet, messy hair in vogue in a big way. Like, not-seen-since-1998-grunge big.

The Guardian reported, "This season on Marc Jacobs’ catwalk, models’ hair was soaked with product and fastened messily with mismatched clips." While the hairstyle might sound like the look you get when you've overslept your alarm and had to take a three second shower before tornado-ing out the door, I feel like this Marc Jacobs soaked hair trend could be pretty bomb for those hot summer days that are just ahead of us.

You can look like you've just come from a quick dip in the pool and decided to make the most of the situation by bedazzling your slicked-back locks with some gem clips, or like you're enjoying the afternoon so much you just couldn't care less what you hair looks like. There's just a certain chicness when it comes to rocking a style that makes you look indifferent. As Marie Claire pointed out, "The Wet Hair Movement is nothing if not an opportunity to turn your laziness into dewy, sexy chicness."

The Guardian described the trend perfectly, reporting, "Somewhere between, 'No time to dry my hair, I was meant to be at that meeting five minutes ago – OK now it’s six, and, 'We haven’t had hot water for a week, screw it, I’ll make a feature of the filth,' this could be the hairdo of the summer." In the past, many of us might have doused our hair with a healthy blast of dry shampoo in order to avoid this look, but now it can be rather trendy, especially if you juxtapose it with fancier, stylish wardrobe pieces.

Because real talk, if you pair this messy, I-literally-woke-up-like-this hair with a velour tracksuit, you might give off a different vibe and end up looking less cutting-edge chic and more "I ate a Twinkie for breakfast."

So how does one achieve this look? If you don't actually want to walk around with dirty hair, you can drown it with mouse, gel, or shine serum. Or if you want to go a little less extreme, slick it up with wax or less product for a less oily feel.

If you're feeling bold and want to try out the drenched hair trend, here's some more inspo from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 show.

1. Let Your Bangs Fall In Your Eyes

Scoop up your bangs but let a few wisps messily fall into your eyes.

2. Use Bejeweled Clips

Not only will they help keep your messily-arranged hair in place, but they'll add some oomph to your outfit.

You can still embrace the trend if you want to keep your strands down.

5. Curly Hair Can Play Too

No matter the texture of your hair, you can join in as long as you have gel handy.

6. Frizz Is In

Remember: The more flyaways, the better.

7. Let Strands Frame Your Face

It'll look more nonchalant that way.

While it's a bold and unexpected look, drenched hair can definitely work for summer for those who want to change things up in the beauty department.
