Kids Found A Secret Message From Their Late Dad

by Lily Feinn

There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing a loved one, and little anyone can do to speed the healing process. But one grieving family received a little unexpected consolation when the kids found a hidden message from their dad under a desk months after he passed away.

Imgur user ButAnywayHeresWonderwall posted a picture of his amazing discovery on the photo-sharing site on April 23. The note was found under an old workbench that his father had made for his mom when she became interested in metal engraving. While taking apart the bench in order to reinforce the legs, he found the love note scrawled in red Sharpie on the underside of the table — a place where nobody would have thought to look. He had no idea how long the note had been hidden under the desk, as his dad had passed February 26 from a ruptured artery.

If you don't want your heart strings tugged at, I suggest you look away. And, no this is not from a deleted scene from The Notebookthis is real life!

The note read:

I love you Becca. Whatever day this is, I hope it's a good one. God truly answered my prayers the day he gave me you. I know that these days are the best I'll ever have, and I'm glad you're in them. I'm not sure if you'll ever see this, but if you do, just know that I love you very much. If there is one thing want in life, it is to be as good to you as you are to me. If I can do that, I'll be the happiest man alive.
I love you beautiful wife :) — Mason

The internet responded with an outpouring of condolences and support, sharing their own stories of love and loss. ButAnywayHeresWonderwall replied that he hopes his dad's note serves as a reminder to love and cherish our time on earth and with each other, writing, "Thanks for the love guys. You don't have to send me anything. I only ask that you love one another so there can be peace. Leave the world better than you found it."

The image of the beautifully written, heartfelt love note has received nearly 600,000 views in just a few short days. Imgur users were so touched by its sentiment, one wrote "This. This is romance. This is what being romantic is. Because he could never have known if she'd see it. But he knew. He took the time." This instance of #relationshipgoals may even inspire others to do the same, another commented "That is so awesome. I'm going to do that next time I build something for my wife. Thanks very much for sharing."

With the birth of email, texting, and other digital communication, receiving an actual handwritten love letter is a rarity. However, just a few decades ago, the most popular way to express your feelings of devotion was with pen and paper. Poetic love letters from famous historic couples can be still read today, their love and romance living on in writing. This hidden letter proves that taking the time to just write a quick note can have a ripple effect that you can't predict — whether or not it's Valentine's day.
