Craigslist Killer Was a Satanist

by Sarah Hedgecock

Miranda Barbour, a 19-year-old arrested in December on charges of killing a man she met on Craigslist, claimed on Friday that he is far from her only victim. Barbour told the Daily Item, a newspaper in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, that she has murdered over two dozen people. She claimed that the murders began when she joined a satanic cult in Alaska six years ago.

Barbour and her husband both face the death penalty after allegedly murdering a man they met on Craigslist in November. Barbour reportedly told the man she would have sex with him for $100 and lured him to a car bound for Sunbury. Her husband was allegedly hiding under blankets in the backseat and strangled the man. Barbour then, police say, stabbed the man over 20 times and left him in an alley. She says she would have let her Craigslist victim go if he hadn't "said the wrong things" and that she and her husband had only intended to strangle him before things got out of hand. Authorities claim the murder was a "thrill kill" to mark the Barbours' three-week wedding anniversary.

Now Barbour claims this murder was just one of dozens. Her first kill, she told the Item, happened six years ago after she joined the Alaskan satanic cult. She accompanied the cult leader to find a man who owed the group money and, she says, was coerced into shooting him. After that, she says, "I just continued to kill." Although she did not reveal victims' names, she told the paper, "I can pinpoint on a map where you can find them."

Barbour claims not to know offhand how many people she has murdered but claims "bad people" were her only victims. "When I hit 22," she told the paper, "I stopped counting." But now she says she is ready to come clean. "I feel it is time to get all of this out," she continued. "I don’t care if people believe me. I just want to get it out."
