All The Dresses Rihanna Has Worn To The Met Gala

by Jessica Willingham

Rihanna is forever serving us up lessons in personal style. She's one of the most recognizable fashion icons for a reason, and I can't wait to see what she rocks to this year's Met Gala. But for posterity (and preparation) let's run through all of Rihanna's Met Ball dresses, shall we?

The Met Ball is an annual gathering of oh, you know, just the most influential people in art, fashion, and (for 2016) tech in the world. It's an extremely exclusive and lucrative fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. The dress code as fancy as can be, and every year has a specific theme that attendees are attempted to dress for. And generally, the stars turn up and out with some of the grandest and outrageous fashions.

Rihanna's Met Ball looks have ranged from sleek and sexy to grand and fantastical. Sometimes she bares it all in chic, see-through tops and sometimes she covers it all up with huge trains, fur, and intricate embroidery. In 2015, she practically broke the internet with a giant yellow gown that sparked a million pizza memes. Who knows what we can expect this year but, with a theme that encourages futuristic dressing, I'm sure she won't disappoint. Personally, I hope she keeps up with her fringe obsession since "Work" and gives us something swingy, fluid, and fabulous.

While we wait for her big dress reveal on May 2, let's look back at everything she's ever worn to the gala.

In 2007, Riri blended soft and pretty with a little edge, thanks to those black lace gloves.

She went all edgy with a long, see-through black dress paired with fiery red hair. There's no mistaking here.

Another sleek, black dress for the year's theme, "Impossible Conversations."

This is my favorite look yet. It was fun, feminine, but still totally luxe in a way that stops people in their tracks. Well done, Ri.

Ah, the dress to end all dresses. This look generated more memes than the internet could handle, but it was no doubt regal and so interesting that we couldn't take our eyes off her. Plus, she was reportedly the only major celebrity to wear a Chinese designer to the "China: Through The Looking Glass"-themed ball. Way to slay in every way, Ri.
