Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina is engaged to her unofficial brother Nick Gordon, so let's all take a moment to imagine a world in which this wouldn't be weird. She broke the big news on Facebook in classic Bobbi style, saying:
"I’m tired of hearing people say ‘eww your [sic] engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.’ Let me clear up something, we aren’t even real brother and sister nor is he my adoptive brother. My mom never adopted him.”
Um ... yeah. That may be true, but the whole living-as-brother-and-sister-for-10-years kinda negates the importance of legal sibling-hood, right? Technically this isn't incest, but in the hearts and souls of Whitney fans the world over, it's totally frickin' incest.
Bobbi goes on to say, "mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating", which actually just makes the entire situation even more distasteful. Since when did the Houston household pick up "incest is best, put your brother to the test" as their family motto? Just because Whitney never officially adopted Nick Gordon doesn't mean he wasn't Bobbi's acting-sibling, by all accounts.
I'm personally of the "anyone you call your brother is pretty off limits" camp, but maybe I'm just being a prude. I'd actually rather throw myself off a cliff than think about anything sex-related with my brother, but hey, I guess different strokes for different folks. (That phrase takes on such a horrible, different meaning in this context. I'm actually gagging.)
Bobbi clarifies that it's her decision to date who she wants, and that "the decisions I make have nothing to do with you." That's certainly true, she just can't expect us to go along for the ride when her decision is to marry her non-biological brother.
Let the in-law confusion begin, Bobbi, and best of luck explaining how Mommy and Daddy met to your future children.
