Calvin Harris' New Song Is Probably About Taylor

by Caitlyn Callegari

When someone in a relationship puts out a sentimental type of song, naturally, everyone's mind goes to that artist's significant other. It's human nature to want to connect the dots, especially when they lead somewhere tangible. Speaking of super cute, longterm relationships and music artists, Calvin Harris just put out some jammable new music himself with Rihanna. And, if you've heard it, I am sure you're wondering: Is Harris' "This Is What You Came For" about Taylor Swift?

Now, if you said you weren't wondering, you're a liar and your pants are most definitely aflame. Friends, we are all nosy neighbors from time to time and this is definitely one of those times. Harris produced this song; it'd make sense that he'd have a personal connection to it in one way or another.

Something else to take into consideration, remember who we are dealing with here: Taylor Swift, the queen of drawing from personal experience to create music. Could it be that far off to assume her boyfriend would take a page out of her unfailingly successful book and do the same? I really don't think so. But to be good detectives, let's analyze before we come to any conclusions, shall we?

The first verse goes like this:

Baby, this is what you came for/Lightning strikes every time she moves/And everybody's watching her/But she's looking at you, oh, oh

Right off the bat, those lyrics struck me. Because I have witnessed the exact scenario presented in these lines. And if you've been on Swift's social media profiles, so have you.

"Everybody's watching her, but she's looking at you..." Yep. Mhm. This right here.

The other verse that I found particularly Tayvin sounding, goes as follows:

We go fast with the game we play/Who knows why it's gotta be this way?/We say nothing more than we need/I say "your place" when we leave

Here's where it gets interesting. If you're as big a T. Swift fan as I am, you'll know that she has a song about clandestine relationships called, "I Know Places" and that she's used this song in terms of her and Harris' relationship before. Meaning, as per People , she straight up serenaded him with the song in public.

The specific video of Swift pointing to Harris during the song that they provided has since been deleted. But, trust, I saw it with my own two eyes before it disappeared into cyberspace.

"I Know Places" in connection with Harris' "your place" line goes far beyond a shared word. Here's a verse from Swift's similar tune:

Baby, I know places we won't be found/And they'll be chasing their tails tryin' to track us down/Cause I, I know places we can hide/I know places, I know places

Both songs speak of two people scheming to keep the more intimate moments of their relationship from the public eye and do so in a language that only the two of them can understand.

Oh, and then there's this:

Which, as I'm sure you figured out, is Swift wearing a jacket with the cover art for the song on it. So, can I say for sure that Harris' new song is about Swift? Until he confirms it, no. But can I take an educated guess based on all this evidence? Sure can. And I say that this song really does seem to be about her.
