The WHCD Red Carpet Starts At This Time

by Alexa Dragoumis

The Washington, DC Hilton will be packed with politicians, celebrities and the best and brightest in journalism this Saturday night for the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner. Some call it "nerd prom," but I call it one of the district's most fashion forward events of the year. And if you live for this event like me, you need to know that the White House Correspondents Dinner red carpet begins at 5:30pm EST, a full two hours before the dinner commences.

This year, the dinner will be live on C-SPAN and also available via the live stream on the networks' website. The broadcast will include coverage of the red carpet, the dinner, the interviews, Obama's annual speech and remarks by The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore. If you've ever watched, you already know that the evening is full of wit, humor and toasts that you wouldn't want to miss, not to mention the outfits!

And according to Politico, as usual, the guest list is going to be one for the books... which of course should be no surprise. Aside from politicians like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, you can expect to see familiar faces like Kendall Jenner, Rachel McAdams, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, Kerry Washington (of ABC's Scandal), and even Pierce Brosnan. So, you might want to clear your schedule and think about having that viewing party after all.

Just to get you even more excited, here's a few photos that prove that brains and beauty makes for one of the most talked about nights of the year in fashion. We all already know that Michelle Obama has an incredible eye for style, but here's a few looks from past years dinners that are worth remembering.

The First Lady's 2014 & 2015 Gowns

Since Michelle Obama's style is always right on point, I couldn't resist choosing two of her looks to feature. Last year, the First Lady wore a classic, yet eye catching metallic dress.

The year before that she wore a beautiful, feminine off-the-shoulder number with floral embroidery. While the two looks are very different, both are worth taking a second look at!

If you watch Andrea Mitchell Reports, you probably already know that Andrea Mitchell is arguably one of the most stylish journalists in Washington. Here's a photo to prove it.

It's no secret that Ivanka Trump is a style icon, but this flashy red dress has is the perfect storm between sexy and classy.

Chrissy Tiegan's Sequined Gown

Aside from the sheer top and beautifully places sequins, Chrissy Teigan looked amazing as she shows a little leg on the red carpet at the 2015 dinner.

Connie Britton's Blue Lace Gown

ABC's Nashville (and formerly Friday Night Lights) star Connie Britton sported a royal blue lace gown at the 2013 WHCA dinner. Aside from the fact that blue is definitely her color, this classic silhouette would still be just as beautiful today.

Kerry Washington's Pretty In Peach Gown

It's only fitting that ABC's Scandal star Kerry Washington would be at an event like this one, but her 2012 gown was also well-worthy of the event. I can't wait to see what she'll wear this year!

All "nerd prom" jokes aside... I anticipate some seriously high-end fashion on Saturday night's red carpet. And if you miss it, don't say I never told you so!
