Ted Cruz Calls Donald Trump Unthinkable Names

by Alexi McCammond

In a last-ditch effort to sway voters before the Indiana primary, Ted Cruz called Donald Trump unthinkable names, such as a "pathological liar." Hours before the polls will close in Indiana at 7 p.m., Trump and Cruz embarked on a full-force attack against one another. The feud started with Trump attacking Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, for telling Indiana's evangelical voters that a Trump presidency "could be the destruction of America." After calling Cruz's father "disgraceful" for this comment, Trump decided to do what he does best and brought up unfounded rumors.

As voters headed to the polls in Indiana, Trump alleged that Cruz's father helped JFK's assassin. This rumor started with a National Enquirer story, which claimed to show a photo of Rafael Cruz with Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK's assassin) passing out pro-Fidel Castro photos in 1963. In an interview with Fox and Friends, Trump mentioned this story and the alleged claim that Cruz's father was present with Oswald before he shot JFK. "I mean what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald, shortly before the death? Before the shooting? It's horrible," Trump said. The Cruz campaign told the Miami Herald that the story isn't true.

It's terrible to accuse anyone's father, let alone a presidential candidate's father, of helping the assassin of one of our presidents. Clearly upset by these accusations, Cruz went on an epic rant in the hours leading up to the end of the Indiana primary in which he called Trump unspeakable names.

"The man is utterly immoral," Cruz said during a CNN appearance after hearing about Trump's choice words. "Morality does not exist for him."

It was a low-blow for Trump to allege that Cruz's father had a hand in helping Oswald assassinate JFK, especially as a campaign strategy to win last-minute voters in Indiana. Understandably, Cruz was upset and in a campaign strategy of his own (or simply to blow off steam from being so angry with Trump), his epic anti-Trump rant continued.

Catherine Frazier, Cruz's campaign spokeswoman, released a statement on behalf of the Cruz camp that called Trump "detached from reality," according to CNN.

His false, cheap, meaningless comments every day indicate his desperation to get attention and willingness to say anything to do so. We are campaigning on jobs freedom and security while Trump campaigns on false tabloid garbage. And the media is willfully enabling him to cheapen the value of our democratic process.

At the end of it all, Cruz decided to fight fire with fire and give Trump what he wanted: a name-calling match that pits the two leading GOP presidential candidates against each other...in the media's spotlight.

But the rant didn't stop there. Cruz later invoked his father's message, urging voters that if they didn't stop Trump, the result could be a declining future for the U.S.

Cruz's rant became immature quickly when he started making allegations of his own, namely that Trump has diseases.

As a way to end the feud, Cruz decided to play into Trump's game and mockingly admit that his father was involved with Oswald.

Early polls showed a 90 percent chance of Trump winning the Indiana primary and Cruz's chances of winning declining since his loss in New York. Only time will tell if Cruz's epic rant against Trump will stop the GOP frontrunner from winning yet another primary. But TBH neither candidate's behavior and name-calling deserve the support of Indiana voters.
