Drake's OVO Music Fest is Better Than Yours

by Kenya Foy

Drake is slowly earning a reputation as a peacemaker by resolving misunderstandings, even when they involve his own transgressions. Tuesday, Drake announced the lineup to his annual OVO Music Festival (otherwise known as October's Very Own), and like the parting of the Red Sea, he proved that he is capable of performing miracles of his own, at least where music is concerned. The estranged hip-hop duo Outkast will reportedly headline the first night of the music fest after performing this summer at Coachella.

Set to take place in his hometown of Toronto on Aug. 3 and 4 at the Molson Canadian Amphitheater, the lineup will feature the aforementioned hip hop pairing of Big Boi and Andre 3000, and of course the "Hold On, We're Going Home" rapper himself, while the rest of the acts have yet to be announced.

The upcoming festival will mark yet another set of performances in which Drake has publicly reunited musical acts who went through bitter, public breakups. Last year's festival, he started with himself when he publicly ended the ongoing rap feud he'd engaged in with Kanye West over the past few years: both rappers willingly waved their white flags by admitting that their fierce competitive natures lead to the tension. Drake then aimed his peacemaking efforts toward former bosom buddies and musical partners, Diddy and rapper-turned-pastor-turned rapper again, Ma$e, as the two took the stage to perform a couple of their most popular hits. These seemingly random acts of kindness commandeered by Drake demonstrate that even though he doesn't hesitate to offer his unsolicited opinion on controversial topics and is perfectly capable of issuing graceful responses, in the end, he can redirect his focus and bring us some pretty monumental musical moments by persuading other artists to let bygones be bygones.
