Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani's Duet Has Arrived

by Michelle Lulic

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been on quite the romantic rollercoaster within the past year. With both of their marriages coming to an end, the The Voice hosts not only experienced the pains of heartbreak, but also managed to fall in love with one another. And now, their latest duet together for Shelton's upcoming album, If I'm Honest, features Hollywood's two latest love birds as they reflect on their individual paths together. The story that gets told in Shelton and Stefani's "Go Ahead And Break My Heart" lyrics will definitely break your heart.

However, contrary to what you might believe about the basis of the song based on it's title and main chorus, this song is actually not inviting in the idea of heartbreak. Instead, the upbeat country ballad is begging for quite the opposite — so that healing may begin and the rest of their lives can get on their way. This song is exactly the inside look into Shelton and Stefani's relationship that fans have been waiting for. And we get both of their perspectives. Basically, falling in love with each other was unavoidable. And, seriously, this song couldn't be any more adorable.

First, as their relationship seemed to have began, Shelton sings about the struggle of being friends but secretly wanting so much more with the following lyrics.

Maybe we could just hang a whileMaybe we can make each other smile

However, when Stefani jumps in on the chorus, it soon becomes clear that both of them were fighting the sensations they had to be with one another at its start.

Why don't you go ahead and break my heart? Why are you waiting, is it way too hard?If moving on is what you wanna doWhy don't you do it? Why don't you do it, baby? You can't tell me that we'll still be friendsAnd maybe one day we can try it againIf your really need a brand new startWhy don't you go ahead and break my heart?

And, if you seem to be confused, it is then Stefani's solo verse that puts everything into perspective. She perfectly describes the feeling of falling in love without any control.

I'd never ever meant to get so into youThought I was using you just to get me throughYou know I'm broken, I don't trust anyoneLast thing I needed was to fall in loveYou've got me dreaming, got me thinking, I've got some hopeThere's nobody else I wanna get to knowBut I'm so scared, I don't know what to doHow did you get me so into you?

Seriously, how adorable is that? Overall, it seems as if it would just be too painful for these two to not be together. That is how you shut down the haters. Listen to a short preview of the song below.
