With the looming fear of a Trump presidency gradually becoming more and more likely, Canadians are trying to save Americans who hope to flee Trump's wrath. The website Maple Match is here to save you by matching Americans with Canadian partners. The website's mission is to "[make] it easy for Americans to find the ideal Canadian partner to save them from the unfathomable horror of a Trump presidency," and it vows to "Make dating great again" — a play on Trump's campaign slogan. Sounds about right. You can get matched by visiting the website and signing up for your future partner on the waitlist.

The site's Chief Executive, Joe Goldman, said that over 10,000 people and 2,500 Canadians have already signed up to be matched with a partner. Maple Match is perfect for the nearly 20 percent of Americans who reportedly said they would consider moving to Canada if Trump won the 2016 presidential election, and it seems some of them are getting a head start.

This news isn't all that surprising. After Trump's big Super Tuesday wins, Canada's immigration website crashed, and Google searches for variations on "how can I move to Canada" were trending that same night. Canada's immigration site noted, "You may experience delays while using the website. We are working to resolve this issue. Thank you for your patience." And even though the website's crash was really just a coincidence, the timing was impeccable.

Of course, the very notion of Americans fleeing the country out of fear of a Trump presidency also speaks to the hypocrisy of what it means to live in this country. In the midst of the Syrian refugee crisis, a November Gallup poll found that 60 percent of Americans opposed allowing 10,000 Syrian refugees to enter the country. Considering that there are a total of 4.6 million Syrians seeking refuge, the U.S. taking just 10,000 of them shouldn't seem like such a big deal. The reason behind such opposition is, of course, the fear of the very same violence Syrians themselves are fleeing.
