Multiple Stabbings At Massachusetts Mall — REPORT

by Erin Corbett

At around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Taunton, Massachusetts, police responded to a stabbing and shooting situation at the Silver City Galleria mall. Massachusetts State Police and Taunton Police were at the scene on Tuesday evening. One witness said they heard gunshots coming from a restaurant, according to the local CBS station, and the mall has since been evacuated. According to NBC Nightly News, at least four people have been stabbed at two separate locations, and an off-duty Deputy Sheriff shot the suspect at the mall. The suspect has since been confirmed dead at the Silver City Galleria.

Two of the individuals were stabbed at the mall after the suspect reportedly drove their car into the front of a Macy's store. One witness told WBZ News that one of the victims was pregnant. The other two victims were stabbed at a house near the mall, according to NBC News reporter Tom Winter. All four victims were taken to the hospital, and according to police, some of the injuries may be life-threatening. After being transported to nearby hospitals, two of the victims did not survive the attacks. It is unclear at this point whether the individuals who were killed were stabbed at the mall or at the nearby residence.

According to the police report, the two incidents appear to be related, and they noted that "it is possible that the assailant was involved in an earlier motor vehicle crash on Myrick Street prior to the stabbings there." The situation is reportedly ongoing, but contained, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

According to State Police, "the suspect’s motive remains under investigation ... further updates are expected to be provided by the Bristol County District Attorney."
