This Is Where The Hottest Date Spots Are In NYC

If you’re a single New Yorker, boy do I have some exciting news for you. The dating site Zoosk and Yelp teamed up to find the best date spots in New York City for singles. The study analyzed over 158,000 Zoosk dating profiles all over the country to find exactly where the “most desired” New Yorkers congregate. What they found is that location is everything, depending on your age.

According to to the Economic Research and Analysis depart at NYCEDC, there are well over a million singles in New York City at any given time. While yes, the stats are true that single women, at 53 percent, outnumber the single guys, at 47 percent in NYC, that doesn’t mean if you're a woman seeking a man you’re doomed to be single forever and ever. You just might have to move, if you want get yourself un-single — I kid! No one said dating and finding your match was a walk in the park, but no one said being in a relationship was easy either.

But for those who are looking to find where the other singles hang out and the best and trendiest date spots in the five boroughs, then here’s what you need to know. But first, check out the latest episode of Bustle's Sex and Relationships podcast, I Want It That Way:

1. The Over 35 Crowd Prefers Chelsea

According to the findings by Zoosk and Yelp, singles who are 35 and older are 245 percent more likely to want to meet their fellow singles in Chelsea. I’m going to assume it being right on the Hudson River, where our phenomenal sunsets are even more phenomenal, might have something to do with it.

2. The Under 35 Crowd Prefers Greenwich Village

While the older kids like things in Chelsea, just a few blocks to the south is where you’ll find singles under 35. This age bracket is 293 percent more likely to want to meet singles in Greenwich Village. I’m not really sure why the East Side isn’t getting any love from singles, but I digress.

3. Singles Over 35 Like To Keep Things Intellectual

When it comes to the best “intellectual” date, singles over 35 head to The Whitney Museum on Gansevoort Street, between 10th Avenue and Washington Street. Which, if you’re not from New York, is right next to the High Line so that intellectual date can carry on during a walk up there with lovely views of the Hudson and the city.

4. Singles Under 35 Want To Make Their Dates Laugh

When it comes to sharing a giggle, the hottest place for singles to head is the Comedy Cellar on Macdougal Street. It’s actually pretty well-known and has launched the careers of many comedians. More importantly, it’s a block away from Joe’s Pizza on Carmine Street, which is the third best pizza in all of NYC, according to this pizza aficionado.

5. Both Singles Under And Over 35 Like To Drink Up On Dates

Not that we should be even remotely surprised that someone might want to enjoy a few cocktails on a date, it’s where these two age groups go to enjoy their cocktails that really matters. While singles over 35 like to hit up The Frying Pan (which is a bar on a barge docked at Pier 66 in the Hudson!) for drinks, those under 35 can be found at The Up & Up Bar on Mcdougal Street right next to — you guessed it! — the Comedy Cellar.

6. Singles Under 35 Want To Get Their Fancy On When It Comes To Dinner

Of all the restaurants in the Greenwich Village, those are 35 think the “most impressive date” would be going to Blue Hill where the dress code is “elegant casual” and their daily menu, from which you can choose three items, is $88. I guess by NYC standards, that’s not TOO expensive. It also resides in a former speakeasy and Justin Theroux proposed to Jen Aniston there, too — in case those are extra selling points for anyone out there.

7. Singles Over 35 Are A Bit More Relaxed In Their Dinner Choice

Unlike Blue Hill where there’s a dress code, David Chang’s Momofuku Nishi requires no such thing and the prices are a bit more reasonable. It’s also one of David Chang’s many restaurants (I mean, we’re talking about the man behind Birthday Cake Truffles and Crack Pie), so you know you’re in for an amazing experience.
